| Description: | Croatia gets credit for inventing the bow tie way back in the 17th century. While not wanting to take anything away from Croatian culture, we think it's important to recognize that Farfalle, the pasta shape that looks like a bow tie, was invented in Northern Italy about a hundred years before anyone thought to tie a scarf into a bow around his neck. Sure, Farfalle translates to "butterflies," and they do in fact look like little butterflies as well, but when was the last time you heard anyone refer to them as "butterfly pasta"? Trader Joe's Farfalle is made for us by one of the most renowned pasta makers in Italy, using a specific variety of wheat that's grown only in Southern Italy. In fact, in accordance with Italian tradition, there are only two ingredients in the pasta – durum semolina flour and water. The texture of Farfalle makes it a winner in both hot and cold preparations. Serve it hot with our Arrabiata Sauce, or cold, in a pasta salad, with fresh, seasonal veggies, and your favorite dressing. |
