As a child, our mother Aida watched as her Grandma ChaCha rolled out the dough, stretched it over her knee, plopped it in the fryer, and topped it with cinnamon and sugar. The result? Crispy bunuelos so good they'd melt in your mouth! Cinnamon, Sugar, and Holiday Tradition Traditionally, buuelos are fried tortillas, topped with cinnamon and sugar; but to our family, they are a holiday tradition that goes back three generations! In recent years, we began a new tradition of making grain free bunuelos. Our Mini Cinnamon Crisp Bunuelos are made with cassava masa, and sprinkled with a coconut-sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla seasoning.
